RPM of the MySQL Community Server 5.1.54 GA are available in remi repository for RHEL and CentOS <= 5. See Changelog.
No RPM planned for fedora for which I will propose version 5.5.8 which is now set as GA (stable).
This build use a spec file close to the one from Rawhide.
The new InnoDB plugin (version 1.0.14 GA) is also available. The configuration file (/etc/my.cnf) contains the directives needed to enable it (except for EL-4).
WARNING: before upgrading, a full backup of your databases seems mandatory (a logical dump using mysqldump for example).
Simplest way to install is to use yum !
yum --enablerepo=remi update mysql-server
For whose who prefer the download and manual installation, see the repository
Like after each upgrade, running the mysql_upgrade command is required. It checks all tables in all databases for incompatibilities with the current version of MySQL Server. If a table is found to have a possible incompatibility, it is checked. If any problems are found, the table is repaired. In all case, reading the documentation is recommended:

When will you release MySQL 5.5.8 in your repo ?
@Marek : I have already done some work to build 5.5.8.
But, with this new release, MySQL have drop automake / libtool to use cmake. This need a major rewrite of the spec. Most is done, but I still have some compatibility issues, I'm working on.
Stay tune.
