A first RPM of libmemcached the library to communicate with memcached servers is available in remi repository for Fedora ≥ 6 and EL ≥ 4.
As always:
yum --enablerepo=remi install libmemcached
If all goes right, I will certainly propose it for review and to be included in official repositories.
This library is required by the new memcached PECL extension (an alternative to memcache) in active development phase.
I based my work on the project source RPM, but largely updated to fit the Fedora Guidelines (I'm waiting for a response from the author).
As always, your feedbacks are expected.

Great minds think alike - I built one myself last week and uploaded it to mine mainly as a MySQL UDF dependency. I never thought of the PHP extensions, as I was thinking primarily of some work-related uses.
Feel free to grab mine and compare notes if you like. The Tangent guys have done a good job of keeping their library nice and clean and it was easy to package - if only some other devs could do this :-)
Review pending for official Fedora repository : Bug #497682
EL4 RPM also available (I need to rebuild the memcached server, not available in EPEL 4).
